ECU Police investigating after female student found dead in residence hall

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - East Carolina University Police are investigating after a student was found dead in her residence hall Wednesday.

The student has been identified as female student from Raleigh. She was a freshman majoring in biology with a leadership minor.

"I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of our students. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends," said Dr. Virginia Hardy, vice chancellor for student affairs, in the press release.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., the student was discovered unresponsive by her roommate in her room in Jarvis Residence Hall.

ECU Police are continuing to investigate the cause of death, but there is no evidence at this time to suggest foul play.

ECU officials also said the ECU Counseling Center is available Monday-Friday with walk-in hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. should anyone need assistance. A 24-hour hotline is available by calling (252) 328-6661 (press 2 if after hours).
