Craven County schools awarded SRO grant
NEW BERN, Craven County — Craven County Schools have been awarded a $133,332 grant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
The grant will support additional School Resource Officers in four elementary schools across the area. This is a matching grant program will provide funding to secure School Resource Officer services at James W. Smith Elementary, Roger Bell New Tech Academy, JT Barber Elementary and Oaks Road Academy. These four schools were selected after a needs assessment was completed by District staff.
Craven County Schools recently adopted a new vision for public education, in partnership with over 60 community members. Jennifer Wagner, public relations director for Craven County schools, said in a press release that school safety continues to be a focus for the district.
