A special salute to our nation's veterans is on display in Union Point Park in New Bern from Thursday to Monday.

Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 886 is honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans in a "field of flags."

This is the third year the group has placed over 250 flags in an orderly array at the gazebo. The small flags are more than red and white strips sewn together with stars bound in blue blue.

Each flag is special. Attached to the flag is a small tag that notes the name and service information provided by a loved one, fellow veteran or friend during the recent MumFest celebration.

It is a silent event, a time for those that care to reflect and appreciate the service and sacrifice of their special veteran and Veterans Day.

The "Field of Flags' will be illuminated nightly. All are welcome. Flags and tags are placed at the gazebo for those that want to honor their veteran.
