For Navy Federal Credit Union, the month of May is dedicated to collecting donations for our troops.

But where do all the donations go now that May is over? The short answer: they’re going to service members who are either going overseas or coming home.

The initiative is all part of Navy Federal Credit Union’s Bags for the Brave event where Navy Federals across Eastern North Carolina collected toiletries, nonperishable food items and other goodies for troops in need.

Robert Rooth, assistant manager for the Navy Federal off Western Blvd. in Jacksonville, said this is the most donations he’s ever seen for Bags for the Brave. “I’m really proud of our community coming in and offering their donations. Some big, some small, all for the same goal of supporting our troops,” Rooth said.

Jacksonville’s local USO chapter picked up the donations for their area and plans on distributing the items soon. If you couldn’t participate in this event, the USO is always looking for donations.
