State trooper rescues orphaned fawn

SYLVIA, N.C. - A state trooper who lives in Sylva came to the rescue of a newborn fawn.

Trooper Rocky Deitz tells WLOS a driver hit and killed a doe, and the doe gave birth. Deitz took the fawn, which he named Buckshot, and contacted state wildlife officials. A state wildlife worker will pick up the fawn Saturday and take him to a licensed rehabilitator in Brasstown.

Deitz says that in the few weeks his family cared for Buckshot they grew very fond of him, and will miss him.
