New Bern High School raises money for solar panels

New Bern High School is one of only four North Carolina schools selected for a pilot solar energy project. The school needs to raise money to receive a matching grant.

The project is to install a 5 kilowatt solar array at the school. The panels would be mounted on a pole 8 feet in the air.

A power source that NC GreenPower said will cut about $650 from the school's electrical bill a year. Eventually the solar panels will be used as a teaching tool for students and educators across Craven County.

The grant is $10,000 from NC GreenPower and $10,000 from State Employees Credit Union. The school needs to raise an additional 13 thousand

They have until October 30thto raise the money.
