NBHS Bears state champion football team parade through the city

NEW BERN - The New Bern High School football team celebrated its state championship victory Friday by parading through downtown New Bern.

Just after noon Friday, the bears piled onto a tractor trailer and were greeted by hundreds of fans in the city. The parade left Lawson Creek Park and traveled to the New Bern Convention Center where the mayor and other city officials honored the Bears with two proclamations.

The football players were treated as heroes at the banquet. Mayor Dana Outlaw praised the Bears for their victory of the Charlotte Cougars. New Bern beat Charlotte 23-15 last Friday in the 4-A state championship.

This is the second time in three years the Bears have won the state championship. It's the third time since 2007.
