WINDSOR, Bertie County - Bertie County native and NBA player Kent Bazemore is back in his hometown this week giving back through the game he loves with a kids' basketball camp.

The three-day camp started Monday and is open to children ages 8-18. County leaders presented Bazemore with a surprise youth development award as he was wrapping up the first half of a day of lay-ups and dribbling with the kids.

Bazemore grew up in Kelford and currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks. The NBA player says doing things like this camp not only keeps him grounded but is a chance to also his use a platform to inspire kids.

"I understand what these kids go through and I can relate. That's why I come back and for me it's just a way to keep me grounded and bring me back to center you know coming here and spending time with the kids," Bazemore said.

The camp will last until Wednesday and all proceeds will go to his Arms Foundation.
