Health officials report 5 more flu deaths in state
RALEIGH (AP) - Health officials in North Carolina say five more people died from the flu last week.
The latest figures from the state Department of Health and Human Services were released Thursday, and they mark the second straight week in which fewer than 10 people had died from the flu in one week after reaching a high of 27 during the week of March 11.
In addition, the department reported a pediatric death among the five flu deaths.
Last week, six people died from the flu. The death toll now stands at 136, more than double the number from last season but well below the 218 who died in the 2014-2015 flu season.
