OAK ISLAND, N.C. - A male sperm whale that washed up on an Oak Island beach Thursday morning was euthanized.

Marine biologists were evaluating the whale that washed up not far from Southeast 22nd Street near the Ocean Crest Fishing Pier. A University of North Carolina Wilmington biologist said the whale is not in a healthy condition and its prospects are not good.

It's also believed someone intentionally injured it.

A necropsy is planned for Friday, according to WTVD.
