This is the week we recognize and show appreciation to law enforcement.

Events are going on throughout Eastern N.C. That includes a special event on Tuesday called "Back the Blue." It aims to recognize and honor the men and women who serve and protect us every day.

The event was created by the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association and will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside the Stanly Hall Ballroom in downtown New Bern. Officers from New Bern, Craven County, Pamlico County and Morehead City will be honored individually.

"So many of them go beyond the call of duty," said Nancy Brinkley with Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association. "They do so much more than their job requirements and they need to be recognized, and we need to find out how all of us can really support, educate ourselves and how do we help our law enforcement people."

Doors to the Stanly Hall Ballroom open at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
