Fatal house fire in Onslow County under investigation
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - A fatal house fire in Jacksonville Wednesday night is currently under investigation.
Officials told NewsChannel 12 a single wide mobile home was totally engulfed in flames in the Wood Creek mobile home park area on Walter Lanier Road, just off Blue Creek Road in Jacksonville.
The Onslow County 911 received a call advising of a residence on fire at 2101 Blue Creek Road Lot 45 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Reports were that a subject was possibly still inside the residence.
Emergency personnel with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office, Southwest VFD, Rhodestown VFD, Haws Run VFD, Nine Mile VFD, Onslow County EMS and the Onslow County Fire Marshal responded to the scene, officials confirm.
Upon arrival, the fire had spread to the majority if the residence. The fire was eventually extinguished and a victim was found deceased in the residence.
An investigation was then initiated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Onslow County Fire Marshal and Onslow County Sheriff's Office Detective and Crime Scene Investigations to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
This is still an active investigation and a cause cannot be released at this time, officials said.
Officials are not releasing the identity of the victim pending the results of an autopsy and notification of next of kin.
