KINSTON, Lenoir County - Kinston's Lion Water Adventure Park was one of hundreds of pools in the country that participated in a unique event on Thursday.

The World's Largest Swimming Lesson Day gave dozens of children who attended the water park free swimming lessons to get their skills ready to hit the water this summer. The day was meant to build awareness about the importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drownings. So far this season, four drowning deaths have been reported in Eastern North Carolina, most of them on the beaches along the Crystal Coast. "Oh this is paramount," said Galen Treble with Lion Water Adventure. "We heard just in the last week to 10 days that drowning have already happened in ENC. At the beach, that's a much tougher environment but still the more people we can educate the better."
