Washington man attempts to swallow cocaine to avoid arrest
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a Washington man on Friday, saying 28-year-old Jeffrey Phelps attempted to swallow cocaine and didn't initially stop for officers during a traffic stop.
On Wednesday, officers attempted to stop Phelps, who initially refused to stop. Once the traffic stop was conducted, officers noted Phelps trying to swallow cocaine and also found a snorting straw, cocaine residue and a syringe inside the car.
Phelps was charged with cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer and failure to heed for blue lights and siren. He was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $20,000 secured bond.
