Vidant Beaufort County breaks ground on renovated emergency room
WASHINGTON, Beaufort County - Vidant Beaufort County held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday for its expanded emergency room.
Once it's complete, Vidant is hoping its new 9,000-square foot emergency department expansion will better serve the 24,000 patients that come here every year. That's up from the 9,000 Vidant Beaufort served back in the 1980s. The $17 million project will both expand on the emergency room department and renovate the existing building. The new space will include a new patient entrance and 16 patient rooms. Emergency Department Medical Director Anthony Frank said the idea is to have much more coordinated treatment space. The expansion will also include rooms designed for trauma, behavioral health and other specialty care areas. "We'll have an expanded waiting room and then our beds will be more private type of space for families and our patients," Frank said. The expansion is expected to be complete by next summer.
