Two separate accidents in Beaufort County kill two

WASHINGTON, Beaufort County - Two separate accidents Friday morning killed two people and have the NC Highway Patrol investigating.

The first crash happened at 8:10 a.m., according to 1st. Sgt. Gary Brown. A Honda Odyssey van was heading east on Hwy. 264 just east of Washington. It turned left into Lizard Slip Road, turning in front of a Jeep Wrangler. That Jeep hit the van, which had three people inside. A 10-year-old girl in the backseat was killed. Her name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

A second accident happened at 8:50 a.m. just north of Chocowinity on Hwy. 17. A Ford Ranger was traveling north and was approaching a moped stopped on the shoulder of the road. It was on the northeast side of the road facing north. As the Ford Ranger approached it, the moped attempted to make a U-turn and was hit by the Ford.

A 71-year-old male driver of the moped was killed. The only person in the Ford was the driver and that person was not hurt. The name of the deceased in this accident is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
