Two men arrested on robbery, kidnapping charges
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - Two Onslow County men have been arrested and charged in a robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy case.
Nickey Freeman Yates Jr., 25, of Red Oak Court in Jacksonville, and Christopher Douglas Pearson, 27, of Gregory Fork Road in Richlands were arrested by deputies from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office on June 15. They were each charged with common law robbery, second degree kidnapping and felony conspiracy. Bond was set for Yates at $125,000 and Pearson at $10,000. Yates was also arrested on June 20 on several drug charges from an investigation in March. Those charges were possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule III controlled substances; sell schedule III controlled substances; deliver schedule III controlled substances and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances. Bond for the drug charges were $20,000 secured for a total of $145,000 The Jacksonville Daily News reports Yates was acquitted of kidnapping and killing his neighbor in 2013. The newspaper also reports Pearson was a friend of Yates who testified against him in that trial. Officials said on March 24, a victim called the Onslow County Sheriff's Office to report he had been assaulted and robbed. The victim said Yates and Pearson lured him into a vehicle and later assaulted him, took his money and possessions. The victim also said he was held against his will for several hours before being released.
