NEWPORT, Carteret County - Two men were arrested after a fight on Sunday where a man stabbed another man and then chased after him, firing a shotgun at him in a residential neighborhood.

Carteret County Sheriff's Office Det. Jason Wank said Joshua Barefoot 31, of Newport, is accused of stabbing 36-year-old Brandon Hobbs in the leg following an argument Sunday afternoon. Wank said the two got into an argument over money and after Hobbs was stabbed, he was able to get the knife away from Barefoot, who fled his house at 136 Oscar Hill Road, where the fight took place.

Barefoot, Wank said, got a shotgun from his house and ran after him down Roberts Road, firing three rounds in his direction. One of those blasts struck a home on Roberts Road, though no bystander injuries were reported.

Hobbs was taken to Carteret Health Care for treatment and was arrested Monday morning on charges of assault and trespass.

Barefoot was arrested Sunday, charged with assault with a deadly weapon, going armed to the terror of the public and damage to personal property. He was booked into the Carteret County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
