Truck runs head-on into fire truck en route to emergency call
PACTOLUS, Pitt County - A man driving a Ford pickup collided head-on with a Pactolus Volunteer Fire and Rescue truck on its way to an emergency call just outside Greenville Tuesday morning, authorities said.
North Carolina Department of Public Safety spokesman William Henning said the Ford's driver, 66-year-old Arthur Bonner, of Belhaven, crossed over the median and struck the fire truck - which had its lights and siren deployed - head-on. The accident occurred at 9:19 a.m. on US 264 at the intersection of Old Creek Road, Henning said.
Bonner was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries. He was charged with failure to reduce speed, seat belt restraint violation and expired registration.
The driver of the fire truck, 57-year-old William Branch, of Greenville, was uninjured.
