Traffic checkpoints lead to drug arrests in Tyrrell County

COLUMBIA, Tyrrell County - The Tyrrell County Sheriff's Office and the N.C. Highway Patrol conducted several traffic checkpoints last weekend which led to the arrest of at least six people.

The checkpoints were conducted March 24-25. Several drug arrests were made and cocaine, marijuana and money were seized.

March 24: -- Steve Philips, 49, of Fayetteville was arrested for felony possession of crack cocaine (1 gram). Phillips was placed in the Dare County Detention Center on a $3,000 secured bond.

March 25: -- Joshua Jones, 30, of Woodland was arrested for felony possession of cocaine (less than a gram). Jones was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond. -- Robert J. Sharma, 20, of Rolesville. possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. 28 Xanax tablets and marijuana were seized. Sharma was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond. -- Johnan P. Lazeou, 26, of Lexington received a citation for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. -- Siena P. Powers, 22, of Winston Salem received a citation for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. -- Thomas L. Conlan, 27, of Manteo received a citation for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
