Three people left homeless after house fire in Martin County
ROBERSONVILLE, Martin County - Three people are homeless after a fire destroyed their family home in Martin County on Sunday, October 22.
Fire Chief Mutt Smith of Robersonville Fire Department confirmed that 16 firemen responded to the 11:35 p.m. call of the fire at 209 N. Roberson St. Upon arrival, the fire was fully involved. Smith said it took the firemen about three and a half hours to fully contain the incident.
Melvin Hudgins, his aunt and her son resided at the home and were not injured. Everyone was out of the house by the time firefighters arrived to the scene. They are currently staying with family members.
"I didn't know what to expect," Hudgins said. "You know a house fire but you know the way people initially described, it was burnt to the ground.
"Well it ain't the same the way someone describes it to you versus actually getting on the ground and seeing the devastation for yourself."
The fire took just over 3.5 hours to put out. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
