Suspect wanted for 9 felonies after leading police on high speed chase

PITT COUNTY - A suspect wanted for nine felonies is still on the run after leading police officers on a high speed chase and fleeing the scene.

Detectives with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit were involved in a high speed chase with a white SUV yesterday, October 25.

Officials attempted to stop the SUV for drug related charges, but the suspect failed to stop. After a small chase. the vehicle was stopped, but the driver then rammed a Pitt County Sheriff's Office vehicle and fled again.

The chase finally ended with the driver fleeing from the vehicle and running into the woods on foot. Drugs and a handgun were recovered, officials confirm.

26-year-old Justin Artis Wayne Johnson has been identified as the suspect who evaded police.

He is wanted for nine felonies including trafficking cocaine, felony fleeing to elude, assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement, possession of a firearm by felon, possession with the intent/sell/deliver cocaine and maintain a place or vehicle for use, storage, or sale of drugs.

The suspect is still at large, officials said. More charges are pending.
