BEAUFORT, Carteret County - A Beaufort man was arrested after being on the run for over two months.

Marcus Williams, 33, was captured by the eastern district of the United States Marshals Service. They found Williams hiding in a freezer at approximately 8:00 p.m. yesterday at a convenient store located on Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville.

Warrants were obtained on Williams in October for first degree rape and assault by strangulation after a 19-year-old female reported he sexually assaulted her after giving her a ride home.

Williams is also accused of evading law enforcement on a robbery charge that allegedly occurred in August in Morehead City. The incident is unrelated to the rape. He is also facing additional fraud charges for a November incident in Jacksonville.

The Beaufort native was served with warrants for first degree rape, assault by strangulation, robbery and fraud. He is in the Carteret County Jail under a $1 million bond.

Williams has already had his first court appearance.
