Just because school is out for the summer doesn't mean the learning has to stop.

Hundreds of students gathered Wednesday for Onslow County Schools' unConference at Dixon Middle School. A large number of students got the chance to teach for a change. What was really important by letting the children do the teaching is not only are they able to teach concepts they've recently learned this year, they're also solidifying those lessons for themselves.

Organizers for the unConference are hoping that as these students teach others, their own abilities in communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity will also experience a boost.

"It's actually really fun," said Francesca Sotto, an 8th grader at Jacksonville Commons Middle School. "If I was a teacher I would love teaching this. It's actually ... when you learn it, it looks really hard and complicated but actually getting into it, it's so fun."
