Sponsor families in need this holiday season
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - Nearly 900 families in Onslow County need help to make Christmas happen for their children. You can make a difference, but your deadline is today.
Christmas Cheer by Onslow Community Outreach gives families a chance to sponsor other families who find themselves in need during the holidays.
Toys are provided for children up to the age of 12 and sometimes all the way up to age 17 if there are enough supplies.
"Sponsorship is really the best connection directly from one family to another one. You talk with them about what their needs are and what you can do, Glenn Hargett, Christmas Cheer Volunteer Director, said. "And sometimes we find families that share Christmas together and it becomes a meaningful part of what it is for their Christmas experience."
The deadline to sign up as a sponsor is today.
If you would like more information on how to become a Christmas Cheer sponsor, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are unable to be a sponsor, you can still donate. Officials told NewsChannel 12 reporters that there's a big need for boys and girls toys.
You can drop off donations at Onslow Community Outreach Services Center at 1210 Hargett Street in Jacksonville from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
