South Lenoir student in critical condition after accidental shooting
A South Lenoir High School student is in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the chin in an incident that happened Monday night.
Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace confirmed to NewsChannel 12's Nate Belt that Jessica Ramsey is in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Ramsey was shot through her chin in the incident.
Belt spoke with several students at the school who said the student section was preparing several ways to show support for Ramsey during Tuesday night's rivalry basketball game with North Lenoir. That includes painting her number 14 -- Ramsey is a member of the volleyball team -- on their faces and holding signs of support for Ramsey.
This is a developing story. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
