South Lenoir high school students building tiny house
DEEP RUN, Lenoir County - At the back of South Lenoir High School, construction is underway for two homes going on the market. Students in the construction class at the high school are working on a full size home and for the first time a tiny home.
"This is about 10 to 11 times smaller, so we are adapting a little bit in our techniques to do the construction here. It's basically all the same, but it's challenging," instructor Frank Emory said.
Once the tiny house is complete, it will then be auctioned off during the first Tiny House NC Street Festival in April, organized by Andrew Odom.
"I noticed about two years ago the growth and popularity for tiny houses, small houses and non-traditional house in the state of North Carolina," Odom said.
The money earned from the sale of the homes is put right back into the program.
