AYDEN, Pitt County - One of the state's most recognized BBQ restaurants will be celebrating its 70th anniversary on Saturday.

Skylight Inn will celebrate its anniversary from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Below isthe full press release.

=====

On July 29th from 10 am to 3 pm, the Skylight Inn in Ayden is celebrating 70 years of the Jones' family style, whole-hog, wood cooked barbecue.

Join the Joneses and the Skylight Inn pit masters as they serve up an afternoon of family fun filled with classic cars, bluegrass music and free prizes all on a bed of the delicious barbecue that has become a time honored tradition in eastern North Carolina.

For generations, descendants of the Jones family have cooked their unique brand of whole-hog, wood cooked barbecue. Of course, in those days they served it out of a covered wagon at the end of the harvest season. In 1947, Skylight Inn opened its doors for the first time, and since then it has played host to senators, actors, musicians and even a couple presidents.

"Skylight Inn is as much of a family tradition as it is a food tradition," says Sam Jones, 7th generation pit master. "We're fortunate that our community has embraced us throughout the years, and we're excited to celebrate our 70th anniversary together."

The 70th anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, July 29th at the Skylight Inn at 4618 S. Lee Street in Ayden. For more information about the event, visit their Facebook page, stop by their website at SkylightInnBBQ.com or call at (252) 746-4113.
