Severe Weather Alert Day in effect Friday
EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA - A Severe Weather Alert Day is in effect Friday as you head out the door, according to StormTrack 12 Meteorologist Les Still.
A tornado watch was in effect until 9 a.m. Friday. We're tracking a strong cold front that is headed through the area this morning.
Temperatures and dew points have surged into the 70s. The system was coupled with strong, gusty, southwesterly winds. That could lead to the potential of damaging wind gusts and potentially an isolated tornado.
The cold front will push off the coast by early afternoon. That should end the threat of strong storms here in Eastern North Carolina.
Cooler weather is in store for us, behind this front, for this weekend. With a mixture of sun and clouds we'll be struggling to reach 70 degrees for daytime highs. Overnight lows will be in the low 50s.
