Senate passes National Defense Authorization Act, new budget for North Carolina military bases
WASHINGTON - On Monday, September 18, the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act and the bill is already set to impact North Carolina military base spending.
According to the Associated Press, the bill would pump $700 billion into military spending for the budget year that starts in October. It also expands U.S. missile defenses in response to North Korea's hostility and protects excess military bases from being closed.
North Carolina U.S. Senator Thom Tillis is on the Senate Armed Services Committee. His office released a breakout of how North Carolina bases did in the bill. It's important to keep in mind that the bill still has to be reconciled with the House version and signed by President Trump before it can go into effect.
North Carolina military bases, in total, would receive $357,947,000 from this new bill. Senator Thom Tillis took to Twitter to explain his thoughts on the process.
