Road construction causing concern for Sneads Ferry businesses
SNEADS FERRY, Onslow County - Businesses in Sneads Ferry are feeling the pinch of recent road construction on NC 210, with many telling NewsChannel 12 they've seen a significant decline in business over the past two weeks.
In some cases, local business owners have seen a 50 percent decline in sales. For restaurants, food deliveries that normally take 45 minutes are taking closer to 90.
"The traffic is insane," restaurant manager Chad Velez said. "They come and they get stuck in the traffic. They don't want to stop and then have to worry if they're gonna be able to leave or not and be able to get back to work in enough time."
The N.C. Department of Transportation said they are working to widen the road and improve safety in the area to decrease wrecks. The main construction is around Hwy. 210, Folkstone Road, Country Club Road and Sneads Ferry Road.
Some residents and business owners say doing nighttime construction would be preferable to alleviate some of the burden felt by commuters during peak traffic hours.
