Renovations to Bogue Inlet Pier nearly complete
EMERALD ISLE, Carteret County - After the pier and building attached to the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle was torn down last year, reconstruction and renovation efforts are moving along nicely.
The pier has been part of the area for the last 45 years.
"It's about the last thing we got now; it's been here a long time," resident Harry Caison said.
Mike Stanley's family took over the pier in 1971.
"We are real relentless about keeping (up with) repairs," Stanley said. "When it tears up we go back and rebuild immediately and stuff. It's a lot of work but it's well worth the effort."
After the buildings were torn down last year, a new shop is in place that even takes credit cards.
"It was actually ahead of schedule and really worked out well," Stanley said.
The pier was completed in March, with the shop getting finished a few weeks later, with the restaurant still left to be completed.
"Everyone has been hammering me about the restaurant, they are so excited about having an ocean front and enjoy the open air," Stanley said. "That'll be a nice thing to have you can sit and watch people on the beach you know that brings people." Stanley said he hopes to have the restaurant ready to open within the next few weeks and have renovations on the entire project done by fall fishing season in September.
