Police investigate early-morning shooting in Kinston

KINSTON, Lenoir County - Police responded to a shots fired call early Friday morning in Kinston. Officers say it happened around 3:35 a.m. in the area of Carver Courts.

Authorities say when they arrived on scene, they found the victim, Marquis Williams, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back. Police say Williams was taken to UNC Lenoir Hospital by a friend, but later transferred to Vidant Medical Center.

Police say bullets also struck four apartments. Three were occupied at the time the shots were fired. Officers say a 1999 Mercury was also hit.
