Police encourage students to use LiveSafe app

GREENVLLE, Pitt County - It's been one year since East Carolina University launched their mobile safety app LiveSafe.

Over the year, the university has received more than 160 tips and 40 emergency calls or messages. The SafeWalk feature has also been used more then 1,000 times.

Monday, ECU police are encouraging students to download and use the app. ECU Police Lt. Chris Sutton took questions about the app at a meeting held Monday morning at the ECU Police Department on East Tenth Street. The free app provides seamless two-way communication between users and campus safety to directly and anonymously report concerns through text messaging, video, and photos.

The campus already has many safety initiatives in place including blue lights, security cameras and safety patrol.
