Greenville woman arrested after hitting 8-year-old on bike
GREENVILLE, Pitt County - The Pitt County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman who allegedly ran over her neighbor's 8-year-old daughter with her car and then fired shots into the air with a handgun.
According to Lt. Kip Gaskins, Precious Jewel Applewhite got into an argument with her neighbor in the 700 block of Ashley Drive in an unincorporated area of Greenville northwest of the city limits. Gaskins said Applewhite drove her car through the front yard of her neighbor's residence, striking the neighbor's 8-year-old daughter while she was riding her bicycle.
Gaskins said the child, other than back pain, did not suffer any significant injuries.
Applewhite allegedly then got out of her car, went to the back of the neighbor's residence and fired a handgun into the air.
She was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center on charges of felony hit and run and possession of a firearm by a felon.
