Pitt County man wins $100,000 in scratch-off game
RALEIGH - A Pitt County man picked a good time to visit Chocowinity recently.
David Elks of Grimesland won $100,000 in the $5 million Mega Cash game from the North Carolina Education Lottery. Elks won the scratch-off game after purchasing the $20 ticket at the Choco Mart on U.S. 17 in Chocowinity.
Elks claimed the money at the Raleigh state lottery office on Monday. After taxes, Elks got a check for $69,507. A photo of Elks was not provided by the lottery office.
The Mega Cash game began in May with three top prizes of $5 million each. None of those prizes have been claimed. There are also five $1 million and three $100,000 prizes left to be claimed.
