Pitt County commissioner steps down to focus on health
GREENVILLE, Pitt County - Pitt County Commissioner David Hammond announced Wednesday he will step down from his position to focus on his health, according to a press release from the Pitt County Office of Public Information.
In the press release, it states Hammond informed the Clerk to the Board of his decision to step down, effective immediately. The Board of Commissioners will now appoint a replacement to fill the unexpired term. Recommendations from the Executive Committee of the Pitt County Democratic party will be taken into consideration but the board is not bound by their decision, the press release states.
Hammond joined the board over 19 years ago. A special recognition honoring Hammond is scheduled for the April 3 meeting of the Board of Commissioners. That meeting will be held at 9 a.m. in the Eugene James Commissioners Auditorium, located on the second floor of the County Administrative Offices, at 1717 West 5th Street in Greenville.
