NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, Onslow County - Four public accesses at North Topsail Beach will have a new feature to help keep the area clean.

"BlueTube" is a bright blue container that holds plastic bags and promotes the cultivation of clean beaches and the protection of the area. In a press release from Onslow County, the idea is that a beachgoer can take a bag, collect trash and throw it away in the garbage. Visitors can leave plastic bags in the tube for reuse. The idea is a partnership between Onslow County Solid Waste, Keep Onslow Beautiful and Onslow County Parks and Recreation. Ten of the "BlueTube" devices were recently installed at several locations throughout the North Topsail Beach area. Several more are expected to be added to beach accesses and at Onslow County parks. "The BlueTubes are a creative avenue for folks to recycle plastic retail bags while keeping our beaches and oceans free of debris," Solid Waste Assistant Director Lisa Rider said. The "BlueTube" devices can be found at the following locations on North Topsail Beach: -- Beach Access 1, 1759 New River Inlet Rd. -- Beach Access 2, 2950 Island Drive -- Beach Access 3, St. Regis Hotel -- Beach Access 4, 484 New River Inlet Rd.
