Pair of New Bern men arrested after K-Mart pharmacy break-in
MOREHEAD CITY, Carteret County - Two New Bern men are under arrest, charged with breaking into a K-Mart pharmacy in Morehead City on Monday night.
Morehead City Police say Daniel Nyberg, 30, and Michael Foley, 37, were arrested in connection with the break in. Nyberg was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, fleeing to elude arrest in a motor vehicle, failing to heed for lights and siren, careless and reckless driving and resist delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer. Foley was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony possession of stolen property, felony conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and injury to real property.
They were both booked into the Carteret County Jail.
The charges stem from a late-night break in at the K-Mart at 4915 Arendell Street. According to MCPD, officers responded to a burglary alarm at 11:14 p.m. on Monday, and encountered a white male at the wheel of a 2015 white GMC Sierra. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver - identified as Nyberg - sped off, leading officers on a short chase in a nearby neighborhood.
Following his arrest, officers learned a partner may have been involved in the robbery, and indeed had stolen prescription medication. Working with the sheriff's offices in Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties, a search warrant was obtained for a house in New Bern, where Foley was arrested and a large amount of prescription medication was seized.
