Operation Christmas Child packs holiday cheer
NEW BERN, Craven County - Christmas is a few weeks away and the Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Bern is stuffing in some Cheer, one box at a time. On Saturday the church hosted a packing party, where they packed 1,900 shoe boxes full of gifts and love for children all over the world as part of Operation Christmas Child.
"We have soap tooth brushes lots of school supplies for the children who will be receiving them in lots of countries where they don't have," said Michelle Copeland, the Project Manager of Operation Christmas Child.
Volunteers of all ages helped pack the shoe boxes.
"There are some other helpful people here that will inspect it and make sure I put one of everything and then they will rubber band it and move it to another room in the building where it will be put in big crates," said 11 year-old Daniel Gleason, one of the volunteers.
The shoe boxes are packed into 86 large shipping boxes that will be sent around the globe.
The church raised more than $17,000 to have those boxes ready for the children receiving them in more than 100 countries.
