KINSTON, Lenoir County - One man is dead and another wounded following an early morning shooting on Sunday in Kinston, authorities said.

The Kinston Police Department reported Monday that Kinston resident Vontrece Robinson, 35, was killed by a single gunshot. Tajeem Harris, 26, was also shot, but his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. He is being treated at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

According to KPD, officer responded to a gunfire call at the Kamelot Lounge, 1610 North Queen Street, at approximately 1:43 a.m. The initial reports indicate an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the nightclub.

KPD chief Alonzo Jaynes said the investigation is in its early stages, but they are working to develop leads.

"It's so early but preliminary investigations suggest that these two individuals did not shoot each other," Jaynes said.

Part of the difficulty in the case is that by the time officers arrived at the Kamelot Lounge parking lot, the area was virtually deserted. Jaynes did say the department is getting tips about the incident and is following up on those calls.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the KPD's Tip Line at (252) 939-4020 or the Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at (252) 523-4444.
