Ol' Front Porch Music Festival underway in Oriental
ORIENTAL, Pamlico County - What started as a small music festival is now a town-wide event attracting thousands of visitors.
People in Oriental say they have been very busy getting read for the Ol Front Porch Music Festival. The music festival is a celebration of musical roots in Eastern North Carolina. There will be 26 groups performing on porches all over town.
The music will cover all different genres from Americana to blue grass to jazz. Event organizers say they started the event in Oriental because it's the perfect place to spread the love of music.
"We started four years ago on a very small scale, about 400 people that year and we have escalated rapidly in the last four years," said Dottie Osum, who is an event organizer with Leslie Kellenberger. "We generated the idea between the two of us and it is just a wonderful warm fuzzy experience."
The festival has grown every year and at least 3,000 people are expected to attend this year's event. Event organizers say that of the 900 people in the town, at least 200 of them are here volunteering for the event.
The music starts up again at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and wraps up at 5 p.m.
