Observance to be held at Freedom Fountain for Miss. plane victims
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - An observance for the 16 service members who lost their lives in Monday's military plane crash in Mississippi will be held Friday at the Freedom Fountain in Jacksonville.
The observance will be hosted by the Onslow Civic Affairs Committee and will begin at noon on Friday, according to Assistant City Manager Glenn Hargett. The committee will also read the names of those lost along with a bio (if available) and hold a moment of silence.
The Committee, born of the original Caring Community Committee, provides Citizen led observances for 9/11, Freedom Day and telling the story of the origins of the Freedom Fountain.
The Freedom Fountain is dedicated to all those who have passed through our community in service to their nation and stands in a Mourning Status at this time with all but the center Freedom Jet extinguished in memory of those lost.
