NWS extends rip current threat into ninth straight day
MOREHED CITY, Carteret County - The National Weather Service has extended the rip current threat to Saturday for Eastern North Carolina.
It's the ninth straight day of the rip current threats. They cover the Crystal Coast area, Outer Banks and the rest of the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean side.
The NWS said there will be a high rip current risk from Cape Hatteras south to Surf City and a moderate rip risk from Cape Hatteras north to Duck. Long period swell energy is still lingering and, combined with strong southwest flow and midday low tides, that will lead to an increased threat of rip currents.
