New license plate readers lead to arrest of woman who stole vehicle

NEW BERN, Craven County - New Bern Police arrested a woman for stealing a vehicle shortly after putting into service its new Automatic License Plate Reader.

The ALPR went into service on July 17. That evening, around 7 p.m., officers received information about a stolen vehicle. After patrolling in the area of the Walmart on Neuse Boulevard, the ALPR system scanned a license plate of a vehicle that was reported stolen.

An officer made contact with the driver, Kamari S. Green, 21, of New Bern. She was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle. She was also charged with an outstanding order after failing to appear on a previous larceny of motor vehicle charge.
