KINSTON, Lenoir County - A vodka distillery is set to open in Kinston.

The Social Beverage Company held its ribbon cutting for its Atlantic Avenue location Monday evening and is ready to begin production of its signature farm-to-flask Social House vodka on site.

SBC founders acquired the former power plant building in 2016, with the goal of creating 36 new jobs and investing more than $5 million in the community over the next three years.

"(There is an) abundance of corn in the area so we can get our corn within 15 miles of the distillery we get in delivered almost daily directly from our farmer," co-founder Mark Mullins.

The company is headquartered in Raleigh and will distribute the Kinston-made vodka to eight different ABC liquor stores across the state beginning Tuesday.
