New Bern police hold memorial service for fallen law enforcement

NEW BERN, Craven County - The New Bern Police Department held a Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Tuesday.

The service included stops at three locations to honor fallen New Bern Police officers as well as recognition of two fallen officers within the Craven County Sheriff's Department. The department also hold a special dedication of the new multipurpose athletic field at Lawson Creek Park dedicated to fallen officer Alexander Thalmann.

The scoreboard has Thalmann's name on it. It was unveiled as part of the special ceremony. A memorial plaque was also presented in his honor.

Thalmann was the latest law enforcement officer killed. He passed away in a shooting that happened in 2014.

Family members placed a rose on a wreath for their lost loved ones during Tuesday's ceremony. Many members of the community were also at the ceremony. The City of New Bern also unveiled its newest bear sculpture, Officer T. Bear. It was unveiled in front of the police department.
