Neighbor pulls victim from house fire in New Bern

NEW BERN, Craven County - Neighbors were able to rescue a victim of a house fire in New Bern Friday morning.

The fire occurred off of Highway 70 westbound in the James City area around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 24.

Township 7 Assistant Fire Chief Travis Blalock confirmed that a victim was trapped inside the home, but neighbors were able to pull the victim out before flames got worse.

The victim was transported to Carolina East Medical Center after suffering burns. Blalock said the victim will likely be flown to a burn center.

Calls of the fire started coming in early this afternoon. Witnesses reported hearing loud sirens and seeing emergency vehicles rush past the surrounding area.

Emergency responders were able to control the fire within 15 minutes of dispatch.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said.
