NCDOT to have extra Ocracoke ferry runs for fishing tournament

OCRACOKE, Hyde County - The N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct extra ferry runs from Hatteras to Ocracoke and back for the Ocracoke Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament on Wednesday.

Contestants and families will be arriving on the island for the one-day tournament. The DOT will also have an unscheduled "shuttle" boat to help with any extra traffic that will happen during the day.

The schedule is as follows:

-- From Hatteras: 5 a.m., 6:15, 7:20, 8:35, 9, 9:40, 10, 10:30, 10:55 and 11:20 a.m., noon, 12:20 p.m., 12:50, 1:15, 1:40, 2:20, 2:40, 3:10, 3:35, 4, 5, 5:30, 5:45, 6:20, 6:45, 7:20, 7:50, 8:15, 9:15, 10:45 p.m., and midnight.

-- From Ocracoke: 5 a.m., 6:10, 7:25, 8:30, 9:45, 10:10, 10:50, 11:10, and 11:40 a.m., 12:05 p.m., 12:30, 1:10, 1:30, 2, 2:25, 2:50, 3:30, 3:50, 4:20, 4:45, 5:10, 6:10, 6:40, 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, 10:30 p.m. and midnight.

"The Ocracoke Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament is a major spring event for Ocracoke residents and businesses," said Ferry Division Interim Director Jed Dixon in a press release. "We want to do our part to make it a huge success."
