Navy Corpsman identified as third Camp Lejeune serviceman killed in crash
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - A Navy Corpsman from Indiana has been identified as the third serviceman from Camp Lejeune who died in Monday's military plane crash in Mississippi.
The family of Ryan Lohrey, 30, told Fox59.com he was the lone sailor on the plane that crashed. There were 16 servicemen who died, 15 of them Marines. Nine of those Marines were from Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, N.Y. while the other seven -- including Lohrey -- were from Camp Lejeune.
"[He was] loved by all that knew him," Lohrey's uncle told Fox59.com. "He will be truly missed."
TheHeraldBulletin.com in Indiana reports Lohrey was married to Cassie Lohrey and had two children, Gavin and Maylinn.
"Even when he went through training, the drill sergeant would get in his face and Ryan would just laugh because there wasn't enough push-ups or sit-ups that he couldn't do," said Michael Lohrey, Ryan's father.
WTHR.com interviewed Lohrey's high school football coach -- Scott Widner -- who said he was a star athlete.
"Ryan just would show up and do a good job, he was a real strong kid, kind of mild mannered," Widner said. "You hate to see anyone that young, anything unfortunate happen. It's heartbreaking for something like that to happen."
